IL MONASTERO DI SANTA MARIA MADDALENA DE’ PAZZI DEL SANTISSIMO SACRAMENTO DI NAPOLI. STORIA DEL COMPLESSO MONASTICO

Located on the hill called Infrascata, Santa Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi’s convent is witness of three centuries of city history. The continuity of use of the site has led to the conversion of the settlement to various destinations, linked to the changements of the surrounding urban context and to gradual or radical transformations. The research presented in this magazine traces the historical events of the convent, of its links with the oldest monastery of the Croce di Lucca, starting from the foundation of the monastery on the initiative of Sister Angelica Gambacorta, passing through the munificence of Donna Camilla Antinori and Donna Giulia Nave, until reaching the apex of its splendor with the intervention of the rich merchant Gaspare Roomer. Investigation was carried out through reading, documentary analysis and deepening study of the most significant events already exhibited in the volume entitled “La prima chiesa dedicata a Santa Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi” of the carmelitan P. Andrea Mastelloni and framed in an historical and geographical panorama. Maurizio Rea
