ISLANDS OF OBLIVION PONZA, PAESAGGI E ARCHITETTURE NEGLI SCRITTI DI NORMAN DOUGLAS

In July 1908, the Austro-Scottish novelist Norman Douglas embarked from Ischia to island of Ponza: presented a few years later on the pages of The English Review, the passionate narration of that brief and intense experience – lived in a necessarily spartan way between poignant beauty natural landscapes and the simple island buildings – enjoyed greater fame only after the publication of Summer Islands, in 1931, and Late Harvest in 1946, contributing decisively to the affirmation of the image of Ponza as the place of archaicity and innocence.

LE RAGIONI DI UN PONTE. IL PONTE DELLA VALLE DI DURAZZANO E L’UTOPIA DELL'ACQUEDOTTO CAROLINO

The Taglione Bridge is one of the three bridges of the Carolino Aqueduct, therefore, an integral part of the Unesco Heritage of the Royal Palace of Caserta. The first bridge is in Airola, the third are the Maddaloni bridges, the second, which Luigi Vanvitelli designed and personally supervised the works, called it Ponte della Valle di Durazzano. Even if, with stubbornness, he wanted it to become the "Bridge of Ferdinand IV", as the first work begun in the new Kingdom of King Piccirillo. This was the intent of the galley that made the Durazzano bridge the battlefield of hatred that was already brewing between the Royal Architect and Bernardo Tanucci, President of the Council of Charles III. Papalino the former, the latter reformist. Vanvitelli, a man of art but also of profession, wanted to have that name for his new bridge to demonstrate the breadth of his power even with the beginning of the new political course and at the same time affix a plaque to celebrate the new king. Tanucci saw this as a goal to boycott.

PIGNATARO MAGGIORE NEL XVIII SECOLO. CRONACA DELL’INEDITO CANTIERE DELLA CHIESA DI SANTA MARIA DELLA MISERICORDIA E DEL SEMINARIO VESCOVILE

This article analyzes the late seventeenth-century and eighteenth-century architectural season of Pignataro Maggiore. It should be noted that this town, belonging to the diocese of Teano-Calvi, played an important political and economic role over the period of time considered. Moreover, until the end of the twentieth century, the diocese of Calvi was independent and wisely led by bishops such as Filippo Positano, Gennaro Maria Danza and Giuseppe Maria Capece Zurlo, promoters of the transformation of the medieval religious heritage and the erection of new factories.

PROTAGONISTI DEL MONDO CULTURALE E POLITICO NAPOLETANO DEL PRIMO NOVECENTO. VITTORIO SPINAZZOLA, CONSERVATORE E ALLESTITORE

The proposed study concisely traces the status of the studies already published, referring to the life of Vittorio Spinazzola and to some characteristics of his activity as director carried out in Pompeii. In addition, we will provide a brief reading of the layout of the "Pompeian Museum", current Antiquarium of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, and of the expansion project of the National Archaeological Museum with the construction of new rooms. Finally, attention will be paid to the preparation of the first floor, which took place at the behest of the Matera archaeologist in the years 1915-1916 with the collection of Pompeian mosaics transported from the ground floor, where they had been placed since the early 1800s. The latter transfer also included, as is well known, the very important one of the great mosaic of Darius and Alexander, found a century earlier in the House of the Faun.

LE REALI CASE DE’ MATTI DI AVERSA. IL COMPLESSO DI SANTA MARIA LA MADDALENA DA OSPEDALE PSICHIATRICO A CITTADELLA DELLA SALUTE

The area of the former Psychiatric Hospital of Santa Maria la Maddalena is part of the properties of the Local Health Authority of Caserta. Since its closure just over twenty years ago, the complex has experienced a state of abandonment and a rapid decline both in terms of material and identity. Today the Healthcare Company has undertaken a massive recovery and redevelopment action of the entire complex to rebuild its identity and return it to the community by benefiting from an initial regional loan of 10 million euros deriving from the funds of the former Art. 20 of Law 67/88, Project Manager Arch. Palmira Casella, and a second loan from the Ministry of Health of 20 million euros for which the publication of the implementing decrees is awaited.
